Make sure you innovate not imitate when creating a presentation as everyone is suffering from presentation fatigue.
Don’t let technology get the better of you, use a tin of beans if you can make it relevant to the presentation. There is so much choice:
- Colour
- Pictures
- Movement
- Music
- Humour
- Magic
- Objects
When structuring your presentations consider using AIDA below as a guide. The overview should get the audience’s attention, which will create an interest which in turn will create a desire to act:
- Introduction
- Overview – use AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action)
- Presentation objective
- Amplify
- Summary
- Conclusion – and what next
Here are some tips for delivery:
Don’t:
- Obscure the view
- Talk to the flip chart/screen
- Talk when they are reading
- Repeat every word on the screen
Do:
- Check visibility from back of the room
- Use landscape slides if possible
- Maximum 5-7 lines per slide
- Keep it short and simple (KISS)
